We at Cross Keys locksmiths want you to be safe in your home so here are 10 home security tips to keep your home secure.
Install Outside Security Lights
Outside security lights are a great deterrent especially in the winter months when the nights are longer. They are not expensive and they are relatively easy to install!
Change Your Locks When You Move Into A New House.
When you are moving into your new home the last thing you think of is changing the locks. It is an inexpensive procedure but it can cost you dearly.
The former occupiers could have given a set of spare keys to someone else and forgotten about it so for your peace of mind get your locks changed!
Put British Standard Locks On All Your Doors.
A BS3621 British Standard Lock is usually specified for final exit doors but we recommend fitting them on all your doors.
British Standard Locks have to comply with a high standard of quality and may reduce the cost of your home insurance policy. In fact some home insurance policies specify that you must have British Standard locks fitted so don’t forget to read the small print!
Use Social Media With Caution
When you announce on Facebook that you are going on holiday you could also be telling the local burglar too! If you must announce your imminent holiday make sure you are only announcing it to friends you can trust. Make sure your Facebook settings are not set to “public”
Install Internally Beaded Windows
Externally beaded windows can be smashed more easily by a potential intruder. Some say that externally beaded windows can be safe but we err on the side of caution on this one.
Keep Your Fence low at The Front Of Your House.
High fences reduce visibility and can help a burglar get on with the job of burgling your house undisturbed. The last thing a burglar wants is to be breaking in to your home in full view of your neighbours!
